Chris Rea interest - studio used 1975 Gibson Les Paul Special electric guitar, made in USA, sre. no. 301459; Body: two-tone sunburst finish, heavy buckle wear to back, knocks and marks to edges; Neck: neck repair and refinishing over upper neck/head, further dings and marks; Electrics: working; Hardware: replacement DiMarzio bridge (original retained); Case: period hard case; Weight: 3.65kg; Overall condition: fair *Purchased by Dave Burton, a retained member of Chris Rea's band from 1978-1980 in Middlesbrough in 1977. Chris used this guitar on his first album 'Whatever Happened to Benny Santini', specifically on 'Dancing with Charlie' for the slide guitar work which he multi-tracked to produce a thicker sound. Footage from the Theatre de l'Empire, Paris April 1979, show Dave using this Gibson Les Paul Special alongside Chris Rea. The guitar was also used by Dave in the Melody Maker Rockpop Contest in 1978, where his band 'The Losers' won. The band feature on the cover of the July 1978 issue where he can be seen with the guitar. Sold with a signed statement of provenance from Dave Burton.
