David Bowie interest - a 1960s Hagstrom Bjarton BJ-12 twelve string electro-acoustic guitar, made in Sweden, ser. no. 68439; Back and sides: mahogany, minor dings and marks; Top: sunburst finish, small hairlines around the control knob area, evidence of some refinishing to the top edges; Neck: good; Fretboard: Indian rosewood; Frets: mild wear; Electrics: working; Hardware: good; Case: hard case; Overall condition: good *Purchased by the vendor in 2007 from Mark Pritchett, David Bowie's backing guitarist during the Ziggy Stardust era. The guitar is sold with a copy of a handwritten letter to the vendor dated 7th November 2007 from Mark Pritchett confirming the sale of the Hagstrom to vendor and confirming the guitar was given to him by David Bowie after the 1973 CBS 1980 Floor Show. Also sold with a copy of a letter to Mark Pritchett from Kenneth Pitt, David Bowie's manager, dated 7th August 2007, stating he had acquired the instrument for David Bowie in 1968 and it eventually became his personal property. The letter also states his understanding that Mark was wanting to sell the guitar and had not heard back with permission from David and therefore suggesting he could see no reason why the guitar should not be offered for sale. Please note - both of the letters are copies of the originals. Unfortunately, the vendor has misplaced the originals themselves. In the letter from Mark Pritchett to the current vendor, Mark states that this was David's primary writing/recording/performing instrument in the late 196s and early 70s, a fact that cannot be backed up due to a lack of supporting visual provenance.
