Jon Douglas Rhinestone Stratocaster – an acanthus carved body with applied rhinestones, united with a Fender Japan ’70s reissue maple board neck

*From the collection of Keith Smart – In the 1970s Ivor Arbiter of Fender UK commissioned sculptor and neighbour, Jon Douglas, to cast a number of Strat bodies. Most were destroyed in a fire at the Soho Sound House, a half dozen survived. In the 1990s Keith commissioned Jon to cast a further twenty-seven, these are slightly different to the ’70s versions. They have the seal of authenticity with their edition number on the reverse. This is Keith’s personal guitar, built with a Fender Japan ’70s donor neck. Jon has a full-size sculpture of Winston Churchill in The Savoy’s Churchill room, he also has a full-size Sherlock Holmes in The Holmes Museum in Baker Street.
