He also had a song writing development deal with Phonogram The sale was arranged by former Status Quo manager Ian Jones who later became manager and a personal friend of Dave Burton. When Ian received the guitar, Rick stated that it had previously been owned by renowned French musician Johnny Hallyday. Photographs show Johnny Hallyday with a Gretsch White Falcon electric guitar during the late 1970s and it is thought that this is the same guitar. Sold with two statements of provenance from Dave Burton and Ian Jones. Ian, who is still a close friend of Francis Rossi of Status Quo, states that he has discussed the guitar with him and he confirms that Rick was an acquaintance of Johnny Hallyday. Johnny gave the guitar to Rick during a trip to Paris in 1981. Ian recalls that although the guitar was never used by Rick live, it was carried with the band on tour, used in the hotel and dressing room and occasionally during sound checks.
